2012 Spring Tournament (Almost) Beats Mother Nature

CHELTENHAM, PA – Plans for the Spring 2012 Cheltenham Junior Spring Open  were proceeding according to plan, when the weather forecast for the tournament weekend began to cloud up—literally!

"Our goal is to continue to provide greater opportunities for the Juniors in and around the Cheltenham area to play tennis," said Lori Siegal, Tournament Director. "This year we added a consolation round to our tournament format to afford more match play for our participants."

In speaking with several of the parents and participants, they were excited and appreciative of the opportunity to participate in additional match play.  According to the USTA point system for Juniors, those playing in tournaments receive points for playing in the main draw and receive points for participating in the "back draw" or consolation matches.

The spring tournament consisted of 66 participants across four age groups: Boys 12, Boys 14, Boys 16 and Boys 18.  All of the matches were played with the exception of the Finals for the Boys 12 and Boys 14, which were held on Sunday morning indoors at Fossler Tennis Center.

"The community has been very supportive of our mission," said Siegal, "we would like to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work and dedication.  We could not hold this event without you.  We'd also like to thank Arcadia University and Fossler's Tennis Center for the use of their facilities."
