FoCCT Provides Grant for High School Players
CHELTENHAM, PA - Many people ask us what we do with the money we raise from our Spring and Summer USTA Sanctioned junior tournaments.
Besides helping with court maintenance at Cheltenham High School (nets, wind screens, etc), providing clinics for our high school teams, and uniforms, in keeping with the mission statement of FoCCT (to promote tennis and player
developement within our community), we have also been securing, subsidizing and organizing indoor court time for our community's junior players. Bob Fossler, owner of Fossler's Cheltenham Tennis Center, has also been very helpful by offering us the college team rate, and so now we are able to use 3 to 4 indoor courts per week.
We tried this last winter with moderate success, and decided to try it again. The boys on the Cheltenham High School team signed up quickly and are using all of the available court time FoCCT was able to secure. This grant program subsidized one-third of the court expense, thus allowing the juniors to secure indoor court time at an extremely affordable rate.
In order for players to improve, it is absolutely necessary to play throughout the year, and not just in season. Our players have been diligently playing and improving through these efforts.
